REFLECTION ON EACH INTERNSHIP PROJECTS/TASK

Project 1: Speak & Inspire French Launch

5/1/21 - 18/1/21 (Week 1 - Week 3)

Project

The first project I was assigned to a task for the 2021 International Launch. This project revolves around the product launches that are in foreign languages. Fann and Raydi briefed my tasks and gave an example of how to carry out the tasks.

Action

I am responsible for the Speak & Inspire French launch. Firstly, I have to update the open graph image and canonical meta URL for the masterclass, special and product pages. Next, I need to update the images with the correct file name that I downloaded from the assets provided in Google Drive. I also have to rename the cookie and redirect page URL for the special pages. At the same time, I am required to work on the bonus section...

Result/Success

I managed to finish this project before 18th January as that is when the launch is supposed to be sent over to the product marketing to add in the information & necessary details before launching the product.

Overall Reflection: Challenges & Learning

The challenging part of this project is to look for the assets needed for the product launch. Since Mindvalley launches many products, it is fair to say that there are many assets stored in different folders. It took me quite a while to look for the necessary files but I managed to know where the files are stored.

Project 2: Lifebook Online Italian Launch

14/1/21 - 18/1/21 (Week 2 - Week 3)

Project

As for my second project, I was in charge of another launch besides Speak & Inspire French. This launch is Lifebook Online Italian. This launch is also part of the 2021 International Launch.

Action

The tasks are similar to the first project. Firstly, I have to update the open graph image and canonical meta URL for the masterclass, special, product, live and replay pages. Next, I need to update the images with the correct file name for specific sections like join the program, the curriculum and order menus I downloaded from the assets provided in Google Drive. I also have to rename the cookie and redirect page URL for the special pages.  This would also reflect on the Lifebook sections as well.

Result/Success

I managed to finish this project along with Speak & Inspire French. I just need to inform Fann and Raydi that I have finished so they can help to inform the product marketing team.

Overall Reflection: Challenges & Learning

The challenging part of this project was when I was confused about the Lifebook files and how they are placed and different from each sub launch. But I asked Fann about this and she explained to me how the files are organized in Storyblok. The more I worked on these projects, the better I understand how the files are organized in such ways.

Project 3: Lifebook Mastery Italian Launch

14/1/21 - 18/1/21 (Week 2 - Week 3)

Project

In my third project, I was in charge of a launch that is under a similar type of launch like in the second project. This launch is Lifebook Mastery
Italian. It is also part of the 2021 International Launch.

Action

The tasks are similar to the first two projects. Firstly, I have to update the open graph image and canonical meta URL for the special and refund pages. Next, I need to update the images with the correct file name for specific sections for the curriculum I downloaded from the assets provided in Google Drive. I also have to rename the cookie and redirect page URL for the special pages.

Result/Success

I managed to finish this project along with Speak & Inspire French and Lifebook Italian. I just need to inform Fann and Raydi that I have finished so they can help to inform the product marketing team.

Overall Reflection: Challenges & Learning

The pages in this project were quite different from the Lifebook Online launch. There was only special and refund pages so I thought there were some pages missing in this folder. However, I clarified with Raydi and he told me that this launch does not have the masterclass, product, live and replay pages I see in other launches. While doing Lifebook launches, I learned that Lifebook is one of the launches that are many secondary launches under it like online, lite and mastery.

Project 4: Mindvalley Events Page

20/1/21 - 25/1/21 (Week 3 - Week 4)

Project

The fourth project is mainly focusing on updating the banner to the 2022 version under Mindvalley University section in the events page. Initially, the launch of Mindvalley University is from July 25 - August 1, 2021. But it is postponed to July 5-25, 2022 instead. Therefore there are some changes to be made in the launching dates. Fann and Raydi briefed my tasks for this project.

Action

My tasks are from the changes that need to be made. Firstly, I need to download the existing PSD working file to edit to the new dates for each banner image. From that, I uploaded the updated working files and exports on Dropbox. Besides that, I had to upload the new banner image on Storyblok and reflect the new banner in the Mindvalley events page.

Result/Success

I managed to finish the tasks on time and inform the person in charge of the product marketing team that I have finished.

Overall Reflection: Challenges & Learning

There was a confusing part where I got mixed up with the folder path to update the images from. But then I realized that the assets were upload in another new folder instead of replacing and updating the existing folder instead. From this, I learned to always recheck and read carefully to the instructions and the folder path link attached to it.

Project 5: Advanced Home Workouts Product Launch

20/1/21 - 25/1/21 (Week 3 - Week 4)

Project

The fifth project is mainly about the launch of the Advanced Home Workout. Carina briefed me on my tasks for this project and I worked with her to make the new product page for Advanced Home Workout.

Action

I have several tasks to work on for this project.  I had to update the links for each section of the page from the include files. Next task is to update the images from the Storyblok assets as well as renaming the link for the buttons and sections in the page.

Result/Success

We did not meet the exact deadline but we managed to finish it quickly and send it back to Nastia from the product marketing team who is doing the content for this page.

Overall Reflection: Challenges & Learning

The challenge for this project is that it is my first time creating a brand new page for a new product launch. Carina said to ask her if there is any doubts or questions I have while doing the tasks. Throughout this project, I learned more functions that I have not come across in Storyblok and it was quite interesting too to see how the outcome of the product page looks in the preview screen.

Project 6: The Reimagined Mindvalley Storefront

25/1/21 - 26/2/21 (Week 4 - Week 8)

Project

For my sixth project, it is my internship project proposal where I had a chance to redesign their Mindvalley storefront main page and one of its category page. The project was briefed by Carina and Christine along with Fariz and Reuben as my supervisors. There are four objectives that I have to meet for this project. These include having Mindvalley membership subscription as a key offering, a library of quests and programs with their product information, Customers are able to purchase quests individually or as part of a subscription and our authors.

Action

In the first week, I started to research layout designs used in other websites as well as mockup references in Dribble, Behance and Pinterest. After gathering references, I compile them into slides for the presentation on Friday to the whole web design team. The feedback I received is that it was good thorough research but it was too focused on the design aspect. They suggested that I look at the current storefront pages from a new user perspective. Besides that, sketching out or thinking of mockup ideas would be good as well for the next step of designing low-fidelity mocks.

After my research was approved, I went to the second stage which is to design the low fidelity mocks in Figma for the storefront main and category pages. The typography, colour scheme, symbols and assets for the pages were provided by Carina and Christine. I design the storefront main page, category page and survey page for both desktop and mobile screens.

I present my high fidelity mocks and received feedback accordingly. But for the final designs, I had to decide which variation to go for and refine it before the final presentation.

And last but not least is the final presentation. The presentation has to be straightforward and simple and also in a way it is a pitch to people who has only heard my project for the first time or selling my idea to the audience.

Result/Success

Overall, each stage of the project was approved and well polished. Although there were some refinements to be made in the process, I received good compliments on the works that I did for this project. Most importantly, my final presentation for this project went well and everyone in the graphic, web and marketing team liked the way I presented my whole process of this project.

Overall Reflection: Challenges & Learning

For the research phase, it was difficult for me to imagine a new user visiting their storefront page for the first time as I kept on seeing it as a designer. During the low fidelity mocks stage, the challenging part was constructing the questions for the survey on helping users to personalized programs just for them. For the high fidelity mocks stage, the difficult part is creating the descriptions for certain sections and displaying the programs and authors in a clear and clean way.

REFLECTION ON THE WHOLE INTERNSHIP EXPERIENCE

“Seek opportunities to grow and learn”

The saying above definitely resonates with how my dream to work at Mindvalley came true when I had the opportunity to intern there when I remain to have high hopes and determination to make my dream become a reality one day.  And thus, the reality was beyond what I have expected. It was great to have learning opportunities and to meet and be surrounded by welcoming and creative people during the first internship of my life. The highlight of my internship was the tour around the office as Mindvalley is known to be one of the coolest offices in the world according to Inc. Magazine.

I am thankful for all the assignments learned. I had the chance to use and improve on my interpersonal and intrapersonal skills as well as my software skills. Besides that, I do agree that this internship gave us good industry exposure as we are able to know how the working world works especially in the company that I am keen to work in. It made me understand the processes of working on real-life projects through my given tasks. It was nice to gain new knowledge and inspiration from my colleagues who are creative and passionate about design. Another thing I learned is to be open to feedback as we can learn from our mistakes and improve them to be better. It was amazing to see how my exposure to different design styles affects my usual way of design and doing something out of my comfort zone.

During my internship, I made sure to share my opinions as well as they are also learning from me at the same time. Furthermore, I told myself to ask questions frequently as this is an opportunity given to me to learn from others. Most importantly, I remember that my colleagues and supervisor told me that it is always good to have a reasoning behind what you design. Another tip to take note of when designing a website is to think from a user's perspective according to your target audience. For instance, would they understand where to navigate or find things they are looking for or is it easy for them to follow the content they are looking at.

To conclude, I am grateful to have a chance to intern at my dream company, Mindvalley through my Industrial Training module. I believe that it is good to have Taylor's University to consider having Industrial Training as a compulsory module in our course. It allows us to obtain hands-on experience and real work scenario along with enhancing our leadership and responsibility in executing and performing the given task.
