PROJECT 2- DATA COLLECTION

21/1/19- 25/1/19 (Week 3)

For this project, we are going to our designated places to collect visual and digital evidence relating to our proposed ideas. In this case, we are going to Kuching,Sarawak located in Borneo Island.

For our group purpose, we are gathering evidences by observation, photographs, sketching, videos and interviews. Prior to our chosen proposal idea on Iban Tattoo, we visited the Sarawak Cultural Village and Borneo Headhunters Tattoo & Piercing

Our purpose is to collect photographs and/or videos on the Iban tribe and their Iban tattoos during my visit to these places.

I met some Borneo headhunters with significant tattoos on it. I decided to take photos of them. One of the headhunters said that one side of his body is with Iban tattoos and the other with Dayak tattoos. He said that the tattoos are permanent.

We even had a chance to watch the dance performances from various Sarawakian tribes. During the performance especially the Ibans, I noticed certain patterns on their clothings, head wears, accessories that looks unique and have certain colour schemes.

And also, I observed at some unique patterns printed on the doors, longhouses and many more. They always use circles and spirals in their patterns.

And I wrote some notes and drew some Iban tattoo on body parts from the photos I took. I compile into a scrapbook on what I have discovered during those visits.

And after we collected several evidence for our data collection, we compiled everything into our presentation slides with our final chosen idea, printmaking on vinyl.

Feedback: Mr. Charles commented that our presentation slides were well presented and he liked how organized it was. But he said our ideas can be more innovative and creative rather than just imitating the tattoo making process by using printmaking.
