For this week, we learned about the difference between traditional media vs new media culture.
We watched two videos over the weekends and answered these questions below.
1. Do you think modern technology can assist you in learning about traditional culture?
2. How do you include, utilize and manipulate modern technology into this module and project to benefit your learning of culture, and expressing it in design?

Jacques Derrida Philosophy: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=H0tnHr2dqTs
1. How do new media and old media apply to your study?
2. How do traditional culture and modern culture co-exist? Discuss this in the context of Malaysia or Borneo/Sarawak if you like too.
After watching these videos, we discussed the questions above in groups and made a presentation from it.

PROJECT 1: PROPOSAL
7/1/18 - 18/1/18 (Week 1)
We discuss on what is the theme "living with nature" means? We came up with different ideas and research on the culture of Sarawak, Borneo.
We came up with six different ideas:
1. Traditional tribal motive pottery
2. Traditional wood carving
3. Traditional Sarawakian outfits
4. Sarawak Beadwork
5. Iban Tribal Tattoos

This is a compilation of our research on the culture in Kuching, Sarawak and the six ideas we came up that are relating to our theme "Living with Nature".
This is our rough proposal before we compiled it to our final proposal slides.

From our research, we compiled everything into our proposal presentation slides including our rationale, hypothesis and preliminary ideas taken from our six ideas.

Out of the six proposal ideas we discussed on, we decided to go ahead with the Tribal Iban Tattoo idea. We wanted to do an imitation of the Iban tattoos using the printmaking on vinyl. And later, print the tattoos on a person's body.
Here is the compilation of the Tribal Iban Tattoo idea.

Feedback: Mr. Charles and Ms. Jinchi told us that we presented our ideas well and they like how we interpret "Living with Nature". They also liked our preliminary ideas from what we have researched from our theme and Sarawak culture. Ms. JInchi recommended us to visit Ernesto Kalum at the Borneo Headhunters Tattoo Parlour if we had time to go there.
